This statement describes how and why your data might be collected, stored, used, and/or shared (aka, “process”) when you engage with Midnight Quill’s website or services.

I will never sell or otherwise distribute your information to third parties without your express permission or unless I’m required to do so by law.

The data I collect, why I collect it, and how I use it

I collect a small amount of information from you through the use of contact forms and emails, such as:

  • Name

  • Email address

  • Mailing or physical address (through PayPal, when completing payment)

  • Phone number

  • Information relating to your inquiry for services

I collect that data so I can:

  • Contact you about your inquiries

  • Deliver your completed work or communicate while work is ongoing

  • Better understand how visitors use my website so that user experience can be improved

I use that data to:

  • Deliver and invoice for completed work

  • Communicate with you one-on-one

  • Send business and administrative information

  • Request feedback

  • Evaluate the effectiveness of a marketing or promotional campaign

  • Manage user accounts (in case you become a site member)

I will not use your data for marketing purposes unless you have given express permission, such as including a testimonial in your post-project questionnaire, subscribing to the blog, or signing up to receive notifications for an offer, newsletter, etc. If you are subscribed to any marketing or promotional communications, you may unsubscribe at any time using the links in the email or by contacting me directly (see Contact Me section).

How is your data stored?

The data provided to me is stored on these servers:

  • Wix – Wix is my chosen website provider and system for distributing email blasts. You can access Wix’s privacy policy here.

  • PayPal – PayPal is a password-protected online service that I use for invoicing and payments. Your data will only be used for accounting purposes and never distributed to third parties. Sensitive financial information, such as credit card numbers, is never disclosed to me personally. You can find PayPal’s privacy policy here.

  • Google – I use Google’s services for email communications and for storing client and project-related data. Google’s privacy policy is here.

What are cookies and why do I use them?

A “cookie” is a small data file that is placed on a computer or mobile device when a user visits a website (like mine). This allows my website to identify your computer as it goes through different pages on my website.

Cookies don’t give me access to your computer, your browsing history, or any other information about you that you don’t choose to share with me.

I use cookies for web analytics, specifically Google Analytics, so that I can improve user experience and tailor my website to its visitors’ needs. This information is anonymous and cannot be traced back to you.

You can amend your browser’s cookie settings to determine how my website can use cookies on your device or computer. This may affect how my website functions or is displayed on your device. Some pages may even become unavailable.

What about embedded content from other sites?

Articles on this site may include embedded content (such as videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracing your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

How long is your data retained?

I do not delete data unless specifically requested because many clients choose to work with me more than once. If you would like to remove or amend the information that’s in my records, please contact me directly (see below).

How is your data shared?

It isn’t, except in extraordinary circumstances where I must provide it by law.
